India’s OIL Announces New Hydrocarbon Discovery in Assam

Oil India Limited (OIL) has made a new hydrocarbon discovery at well Dinjan-1 in Tinsukia Petroleum Mining Lease (PML) in Assam, the company announced in a statement.

Per the statement, the discovery was made in the Upper Assam Basin during H1 of the fiscal year (FY) 2020/21 and the well has encountered multiple areas of sand in Kopili, Narpuh, and Lakadong+Therria formation. The company found gas from the Lakadong+Therria formations at a depth of 3,614 meters, producing at a level of 115,000 standard cubic meters per day (scm/d). This new discovery will create more exploration and production (E&P) opportunities in Assam in addition to enhancing the gas production with future appraisal and development activities.
