Egypt to Save EGP 1.5bn from Energy-Efficient Street Lighting

A project to replace 3.89 million street lamp bulbs with energy-efficient ones is expected to save Egypt EGP 1.5bn, the Minister of Electricity said on Thursday.

The project will cost EGP 2.1bn and is expected to be completed in 28 months. The cost of the project will be recovered in about 17 months.

It is estimated that each of the energy-efficient bulbs will save EGP 37. Overall, the project will reduce electricity consumption by 600 megawatts, according to Shaker.

In recent months, Egypt has been moving towards diversifying sources of energy.
