Petrojet Wins Key Contracts for Cyprus’ Cronos Gas Field Development

Egypt’s state-owned Petroleum Projects and Technical Consultations Company (PETROJET) has won key contracts for Cyprus’ Cronos gas field development, according to a statement by Egypt’s petroleum ministry on November 3.

The contracts secured by the company include a $11 Mn deal to manufacture subsea structures and an agreement to design, supply and construct a 57-km gas pipeline linking the Zohr field facilities to the Damietta liquefaction plant, the statement said.

The pipeline will have a diameter of 36 inches and form part of the infrastructure connecting Cronos gas to Egypt’s facilities for processing, liquefaction and export to international markets.

Petrojet signed the pipeline agreement as the main contractor during a ceremony in Nicosia hosted by Italian energy company Eni to mark the signing of agreements for the Cronos project. The ceremony was attended by Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, Energy Minister Michael Damianos and Petrojet Chairman and Managing Director Walid Lotfy.

Nine agreements worth a total of about $1.8 Bn were signed at the ceremony, involving several international companies, including Petrojet, Baker Hughes, Dalmine, Technip, McDermott, Oceaneering, China Merchants Heavy Industry, Saipem and Tenaris.

Separately, Petrojet secured a contract from McDermott to manufacture subsea structures for the Cronos field, with a total weight of about 900 tons and a value of $11 Mn.

Two additional manufacturing packages are expected to be awarded to Petrojet, which would bring the total weight of the company’s anticipated work to about 3,000 tons.

Petrojet is also preparing technical and financial bids for work connecting Cypriot gas to the Zohr field facilities and the Damietta liquefaction plant.
