Egypt’s Supreme Energy Council has approved electricity and natural gas supplies for a number of industrial projects, including 11 projects reviewed at its latest meeting, as the government seeks to support industrial expansion and attract investment, according to a statement by the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy on November 3.
The council reviewed requests from ministries, authorities and companies for electricity, natural gas and water supplies for industrial activities, including energy-intensive industries.
It also discussed increasing electricity capacity for existing facilities to accommodate higher production levels and additional manufacturing lines.
Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat said electricity was available for different uses and voltage levels, adding that new factories were required to comply with energy-efficiency standards and renewable energy requirements.
Esmat highlighted that the Supreme Energy Council’s work supported Egypt’s national energy strategy and sustainable development plans, while helping maximise returns from generated energy and assess alternative economic and investment uses for electricity and natural gas.
