Egypt Holds Talks with Global Energy Firms on Oil, Gas Development

Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi has held talks with executives from Eni, bp, Baker Hughes, Halliburton and United Energy Group (UEG) on accelerating oil and gas field development, boosting production and expanding exploration in Egypt, according to ministry statements on November 3.

In talks with Italian energy company Eni, Badawi discussed accelerating natural gas field development, boosting output and expanding investment in Egypt.

The discussions focused on speeding up development of the West Denis gas field, which Badawi described as a promising project expected to add new volumes to domestic gas production in the coming period.

The meeting with Guido Brusco, Eni’s CEO of Global Natural Resources, took place on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC 2026).

Badawi also called for exploring opportunities for Eni to participate in additional exploration areas in Egypt.

At ADIPEC 2026, Badawi held separate talks with executives from Baker Hughes, Halliburton and UEG on expanding technological cooperation, accelerating oil and gas production and upgrading infrastructure in Egypt.

The discussions covered exploration, field development, production efficiency and the deployment of advanced technologies.

In talks with Baker Hughes, Badawi discussed the use of advanced drilling, well completion and artificial lift technologies.

Badawi and Halliburton Chairman and CEO Jeff Miller reviewed the company’s ongoing study into applying horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing technologies in Egypt.

During talks with UEG, Badawi reviewed the group’s drilling, field development and production growth plans in the Western Desert, following its expansion in Egypt through the acquisition of Apex’s Egyptian assets.

Badawi also met bp CEO Meg O’Neill to discuss the company’s offshore drilling programme and plans for exploration in the Red Sea.

The two sides examined ways to accelerate the development of new discoveries and maximize the use of existing infrastructure, processing facilities and pipelines to reduce development costs and shorten the time needed to bring new wells online.

The meeting also addressed bp’s plans to invest in Block 6 in the Red Sea in cooperation with South Valley Egyptian Holding Petroleum Company, opening up further opportunities for oil and gas exploration in the area.
