The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy announced that it observed electricity consumption of over 29,000MW, the highest ever recorded, reported Amwalalghad.

According to the ministry, authorities did not place limits on electricity usage even though it was at record highs, due to the extreme temperatures Egypt is currently experiencing.

Thermometers registered more than 37 degrees centigrade in Cairo yesterday during the peak load times, stated the ministry’s website.

While power outages did occur yesterday, they were not a result of intentional stoppages authorities said, instead blaming them on faulty transformers in the western Cairo station.

The ministry of health has recorded at least 30 deaths due to the heatwave currently sweeping the country.
