“Egypt undertakes a national project for renewable energy”, said Egyptian Environment Minister Khaled Fahmy.
Not only does Egypt work to increase production rates of alternative energy, but to boost power production in cooperation with countries providing manufacturing technology such as China, he added, noting that Egypt is concerned with raising the production rates of energy in Africa until 2020.
The statements came on the sidelines of a conference on financing energy sources in Africa.
Fahmy said that the new and renewable energy sector in Egypt overlaps with other sectors, which would bring down unemployment and raise economic growth rate so as to achieve the overall national economic goals.
He added that Egypt has regained its palce in the African continent, which would entail exercising a more active role in manufacturing the technology of generating renewable energy via wind and solar resources.
The minister highlighted the necessity of implementing the power production strategy discussed by the African ministers of environment in 4 months at least, given the fact that the Egyptian plan aims to raise production rates to 20% by 2020, as part of power production matrix.
