Gamea Reviews Details for NGVs Conversion Initiative

The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Neveen Gamea, reviewed new details of the initiative to replace obsolete vehicles with vehicles running on natural gas, according to a press release issued by the Cabinet.

According to the minister, the first phase of the replacement process will start in seven governorates where the needed infrastructure for conversion is available.

Gamea explained that the natural gas vehicles (NGVs) conversion strategy is targeting microbuses and taxis that have been running for more than 20 years and other cars which run on gasoline.

She noted that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry previously agreed with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources on the conversion process to be at a cost of EGP 8,000 to EGP 12,000 which can be paid through easy loans with small interest.

Gamea said that the government has allocated EGP 1.2 billion for converting cars to run on natural gas.
