Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced that Egypt is proactively strengthening its energy security by increasing strategic reserves of petroleum products and other essential commodities, according to a statement released by the Cabinet.
These measures aim to protect the economy from disruptions caused by ongoing regional tensions, which are impacting shipping corridors—especially those critical to fossil fuel transit.
This precaution underscores Egypt’s commitment to ensuring fuel availability and maintaining economic stability.
The meeting also emphasized Egypt’s efforts to enhance economic cooperation and establish partnerships in sectors such as energy, electricity, renewable energy, transport, and infrastructure.
These actions aim to deepen international cooperation while bolstering domestic energy security through higher fuel reserves and diversified partnerships.
The Cabinet emphasized Egypt’s dual focus on strengthening regional economic ties and safeguarding its oil and gas supply, identifying expanded petroleum inventories as a key response to growing geopolitical uncertainty.
Egypt relies heavily on regional pipeline imports, making its energy grid vulnerable to sudden supply interruptions triggered by neighboring geopolitical flare-ups. Domestically, declining production in key gas fields, coupled with surging electricity demand during summer heatwaves, is straining the national power grid.
In addition to the energy-focused measures, the Cabinet approved recommendations from the State-Owned Enterprises Unit, which include establishing seven new companies and increasing equity contributions to several existing firms.
One notable approval involved the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA), whose investment arm (the Mineral Resources & Mining Industries Authority) has been cleared to establish a new Egyptian joint-stock entity, the Nile Ferchem for Phosphate Fertilizers Company.
