El Molla: COP28 Ideal Opportunity to Continue Uniting Global Climate Action

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla confirmed that COP28, to be hosted by the UAE from November 30 to December 12, will be a new opportunity to continue unifying global efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

El Molla said in a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) that the UAE’s hosting of COP28 was a successful choice. He added that this is evident from the efforts and preparations that have been made so far and the extent of the keenness to present an exceptional summit that builds strongly on what was presented by COP27.

The minister stated that renewable energy technology is the ideal solution to reduce emissions and protect biodiversity. He further stressed the importance of dialogue and action as well as increasing investments allocated to switching to clean energy in order to reduce emissions.

El Molla said that they spoke at the last summit in Sharm El-Sheikh about the importance of enhancing participation and investments and the presence of everyone at the dialogue table in order to integrate efforts to protect the environment. He highlighted that they presented clear visions for the energy transition as well as the environmental and economic gains that can be achieved.

The minister emphasized the need for concerted efforts of all parties, cooperation and promotion of climate action to ensure a sustainable future. This is especially since this session will witness, according to the announcement, the first global assessment of the continuous efforts over two years to determine the progress made by the concerned governments in implementing climate action plans.
