Officials in the petroleum sector are currently considering the use of GPS in cars transporting butane gas to keep tabs on smuggling operations and to combat black market sales, a source at the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) who chose to remain unidentified told Egypt Oil&Gas.
The source added that monitoring the distribution of butane gas cylinders will prevent the occurrence of any local market crises as it would enable the government to estimate domestic consumption.
He also added that EGPC currently aims to bridge the gap between daily production and consumption rates in local markets within the next fiscal year.
