Dubai Electricity, Water Meets Cisco’s ‘Best Practice’ Criteria

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has received the best practice award by Cisco, a global leader in networking technologies, for the upgrade of its technology infrastructure to support future expansion plans in line with Dubai Smart City goals.

Dewa’s migration of its Al Qussais and Jebel Ali data centre network was commended by Cisco for best practice in design, implementation and in completing the migration reliably and securely, said a statement from the company.

The utility worked closely with Cisco Advanced Services on the network migration, from project management and governance of design through implementation and quality checking. Cisco Advanced Services conducted an audit at the end of the project to certify the implementation, it said.

The award was presented to Moza Al Akraf, Dewa’s chief information officer by Rabih Dabboussi, general manager for Cisco in the UAE, during a ceremony held at the authority’s head office in Dubai.

In line with Dubai’s vision to become the smartest city in the world, the network upgrades will support Dewa’s plan to raise production capacity, upgrade its infrastructure and implement smarter technologies to manage generation, transmission and distribution.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of Dewa, said: “At Dewa, we work to achieve the initiative launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform Dubai into the smartest city in the world and to ensure that all the facilities and services are provided through smart and integrated systems.

“We work to raise the level of our services by adopting the latest technologies, systems and international best practices to ensure safe and stable supplies of electricity and water,” he said.

“We are pleased to receive the award from Cisco, which underlines Dewa’s continuous efforts to upgrade its infrastructure and enhance its operational efficiency,” he added.
