The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has won the Energy Company of the Year award in the Gulf Business Industry Awards 2015 contest, reported Trade Arabia.
The award is organised by Gulf Business magazine in collaboration with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI).
Waleed Salman, Dewa’s executive vice president of Strategy and Business Development, received the award on behalf of Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of Dewa.
Al Tayer said: ”We take pride in Dewa being recognised for this win, which reflects our success in achieving international quality standards in the electricity and water services that we provide according to the highest reliability and efficiency standards to go beyond the expectations of our customers and partners, and enhance their comfort and happiness.”
According to Gulf News Saeed Mohammad Al Tayer is also to head a DEWA delegation to the United States after receiving an official invitation from the US Department of Energy to participate in the Solar Decathlon competition, organised by the US Department of Energy in Irvine, California, from 14-18 October, 2015.
Dubai itself will host the first and second Solar Decathlon competitions in 2018 and in 2020 in conjunction with Expo 2020.
“This visit supports the national Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the Dubai Plan 2021 to develop projects and programmes, especially in renewable energy and energy efficiency,” said Al Tayer, who is also the Vice-Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy.
“Three volunteers from Dewa will participate in the competition to look at the latest practices in green buildings and sustainability, gain experience and learn new skills,” he added.
