Chevron Evacuates Staff in Nigeria Following More Attacks

Chevron Corporation has been jolted by another attack in Nigeria: an explosion hit the company’s Marakaba pipeline that shook the company’s facility in Nigeria’s Delta State, BFN reported.

The responsibility of the attack has been claimed by the Niger Delta Avengers, a group which opposes the oil companies’ operations in Nigeria as it believes that the oil giants work for their own benefits. It maintains that the oil companies do not provide adequate revenues and take no measures in mitigating oil pollution.

Following the spate of attacks on its facilities, Chevron Nigeria commenced the evacuation of staff from its installations in the western Niger Delta, including the Escravos Export Terminal, according to All Africa. The company has however refused to confirm or deny the development, insisting that it has a longstanding policy not to comment on its security arrangements.

Chevron followed Shell, that a week before evacuated its workers at Nigeria’s Bonga oil field in the southern Niger Delta.
