Saudi Arabia’s cabinet of ministers approved a proposal to develop a national program for atomic energy during its meeting at the end of July, Al Arabiya reports.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman proposed the plan to help wean the country away from its dependence on oil exports, according to Thema News.

Saudi Arabia, the world’s’ top oil exporter, anticipates generating 9.5 GW of electricity from renewable energy by 2030 as part of its efforts to diversify its economy under Vision 2030.
