PETRONAS Achieves Gas Discovery in Malaysia

PETRONAS Company announced that it has achieved a natural gas discovery from Dokong- 1 exploration well in Block SK 417 which is located in the shallow waters of Baram Province at offshore Malaysia, a press release reported.

This block is 80% operated by PTTEP HK Offshore Limited and 20% by PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of PETRONAS through a production sharing contract (PSC) signed in 2018.

The company highlighted that this discovery proves the existence of more sweet gas potentials in this region.
PETRONAS Senior Vice President of Malaysia Petroleum Management Mohamed Firouz Asnan said, “The Dokong-1 exploration well is one of several recent successes in Malaysia’s exploration activities. Monetization of sweet gas discovery in Baram Province can be supported through existing infrastructure and will contribute towards PETRONAS’ aspiration in delivering reliable, stable and cleaner energy supply to domestic and global markets.

PETRONAS mentioned that it is planning to offer four shallow water blocks in Sarawak during Malaysia Bid Round 2021.
