NREA, JICA Finalize Studies for Hurghada PV Station

The New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) is establishing an electricity generation station with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Amwal Al Ghad has reported.

The station will use a photovoltaic (PV) cell and will be constructed in Hurghada. The technical and economic feasibility studies for the project have already been prepared.

The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy discussed the work situation at the station with the head of the NREA Mohamed El Khayat.

The NREA arranged with the JICA to fund the 20 MW-capacity project with a $106.43 million loan. A tender for the project’s contractor will be offered in September 2018 in order for the station to become operational by mid-2019.

The project will help Egypt save the equivalent of around 7,000 tons of oil and decrease carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 17,000 tons.
