Ministry of Petroleum Continues Upgrading Gas Grid

The Minister of Petroleum, Tarek El Molla, has confirmed the petroleum sector’s commitment to work on expanding and enhancing the efficiency of the national gas grid, considering it a strategic pillar in transforming Egypt into a regional hub for oil and gas trading, Egypt Oil & Gas reports.

The ministry’s strategy is to increase the grid’s capacity and length to incorporate the increasing supplies of natural gas, through many projects to develop the grid across the country.

Moreover, the ministry is carrying out studies to establish a number of pipeline projects to increase the length to 8,750 kilometers by 2023, up from the current 7,800 kilometer-length, in addition to attracting more investors to increase the value-added and capitalize on the countries growing production and new discoveries.

It is worth noting that the Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO) is working on managing, operating, developing, maintaining, and securing the gas grid through the National Advanced Control Center (NATA).
