Egypt to Start Solar Power Station at ASORC

Enppi and Petrojet, the two arms of the petroleum sector in the fields of engineering designs, general contracting and construction, have been assigned the task of implementing the electric power generation station project using solar cells with a capacity of 10 megawatts at the Assiut Oil Refining Company (ASORC).

This comes in implementation of the strategy of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) for energy transformation and reducing emissions.

The project is planned to be completed with an investment cost of EGP 550 million within 11 months.

The oil and gas sector is also currently working on implementing a similar project to produce electricity from solar energy with a capacity of 6.5 megawatts at the General Petroleum Company at an investment cost of EGP 500 million.

These two projects will be funded through a grant provided by the European Union (EU) within the Energy Sector Policy Support Program at no cost to the petroleum sector, in line with the Ministry’s action plan to translate visions and strategies into specific projects that can be implemented on the ground.
