Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly chaired the cabinet’s weekly meeting, where the focus was on the latest updates on the fire that affected a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) and a storage vessel at Damietta Port on July 29, as well as the results of the preliminary investigations conducted by the relevant authorities.

These investigations indicated that a drone caused the fire, and the relevant authorities are continuing their inquiries to determine all the circumstances surrounding the incident and take the necessary measures to safeguard Egypt’s interests and national security.

Madbouly’s priority was the stability of services at Damietta Port and the continued regular operation of the port.

Relevant ministers reviewed the efforts undertaken to contain the fire on the two vessels and restore services at Damietta Port to normal. They also stressed the full cooperation and coordination among the various ministries and concerned authorities in responding to the incident.

While the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ July 29 statement didn’t mention the name of the FSRU, there is only one in Damietta Port, Energos Winter, which docked there in October.

In July 2025, Egypt chartered an FSRU for five years to convert imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) back into gas for the national grid. The vessel holds a regasification capacity of 450 million cubic feet per day (mmcf/d).
