EGPC Organizes Workshop on Reducing Methane Emissions in Suez

The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) organized an introductory workshop titled ‘Defining the Carbon Footprint and Opportunities for Reducing Methane Emissions in Petroleum Companies’ in Suez.

The workshop focused on identifying the main sources of carbon emissions in petroleum companies, preparing carbon footprint reports, pinpointing opportunities to reduce carbon emissions in petroleum companies, monitoring and measuring methane emissions, and implementing the Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) model.

The workshop also shed light on successful project implementations within petroleum companies and reviewed several recommendations aimed at strengthening environmental monitoring procedures, improving operating system efficiency, and applying environmental sustainability standards in line with sustainable development goals and the state’s climate change strategy.

The workshop was part of ongoing collaborative efforts to boost environmental awareness and facilitate the exchange of expertise among sector companies. Its goal is to optimize the use of natural resources, safeguard the environment, and align with global trends toward reducing carbon emissions. This initiative was carried out in coordination with various petroleum geographic regions, including the Geographical Committee for the Suez region, chaired by Mohamed Abdullah, Chairman of El Nasr Petroleum Company (NPC).
Representatives from companies across the governorate’s geographic region participated in the workshop, which witnessed strong engagement from attendees.
