Salah Abdel Kerim, CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), inspected development at the Agroud oil storage facility.
Located in Suez governorate and operated by the Petroleum Pipelines Company (PPC), the Agroud facility is undergoing upgrades to expand its strategic crude oil storage capacity. Abdel Kerim emphasized the importance of these projects in boosting operational efficiency, strengthening competitiveness, sustaining performance, and attracting foreign investment. He directed management to maintain continuous specialized training to enhance team readiness.
These upgrade systems are being integrated into centralized control rooms and SCADA networks to maximize national pipeline efficiency. These networks are critical for the distribution of crude oil and petroleum products, supporting the country’s economic and service goals.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the PPC, Egyptian Projects Operation and Maintenance (EPROM), Petroleum Projects and Technical Consultations Company (PETROJET), and Engineering for the Petroleum and Process Industries Company (ENPPI), who delivered a detailed presentation on the area’s development phases.
The site tour concluded with officials inspecting the control room and warehouses, then assessing the facility’s readiness for emergencies. Abdel Kerim ordered specialized engineering inspections for all storage tanks to be conducted on a strict, periodic schedule.
The government is expanding crude oil storage facilities to secure domestic reserves and ease distribution bottlenecks. By deploying advanced SCADA automation and modernizing regional hubs such as Suez, EGPC increases efficiency and strengthens the infrastructure needed to support Egypt’s production goals. These modernization efforts safeguard Egypt’s energy security and demonstrate the operational standards required to attract ongoing foreign investment in the energy sector.
Abdel Kerim also inspected the strategic crude oil storage facilities in Ras Gharib and Ras Shukeir in the Eastern Deserts on July 13. The visit addressed current challenges and examined scenarios and alternatives to safeguard operations, secure electricity supply sources, complete the construction of essential pipelines, and enhance maneuvering capacity at Ras Shukeir Port and through the operation of the storage facilities.
