Salah Abdel Kerim, CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), inspected the strategic crude oil storage facilities in Ras Gharib and at Ras Shukeir in the Eastern Deserts as part of implementing the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR)’s strategy to accelerate the operation of vital projects, according to a statement by MoPMR.
Abdel Kerim started the tour with a meeting at the General Petroleum Company (GPC) in Ras Gharib, during which he affirmed that the company represents a genuine added value to the national economy.
He noted that Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, is fully committed to supporting the development and expansion of the GPC’s capacities in its areas of operation in the Gulf of Suez and the Abu Sennan Concession. He emphasized that employees must harness their skills to raise production and efficiency while working to reduce costs.
Abdel Kerim also met with the facility project team, where he underscored the importance of the strategic storage facility project as part of Egypt’s efforts to secure fuel supplies by building reserves that ensure smooth distribution across all sectors.
The tour included an inspection of the storage facilities at Ras Shukeir with the facility’s team and the Ras Shukeir Fields Manager from the Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company (GUPCO). During the visit, they discussed current challenges and examined scenarios and alternatives to safeguard operations, secure electricity supply sources, complete the construction of essential pipelines, and enhance manoeuvring capacity at Ras Shukeir Port and through the operation of the storage facilities.
The visit concluded with assigning responsibilities to different teams, with the EGPC team tasked with implementing the agreed solutions, including securing diverse electricity supply sources and coordinating requirements with the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC), while GUPCO, Petroleum Pipelines Company (PPC), and Egyptian Projects Operation and Maintenance (EPROM) teams will cooperate in extending supply lines and testing operational phases.
