Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, said that higher crude supplies and refinery efficiency projects have boosted production at Alexandria Petroleum Company, helping to meet local demand and reduce Egypt’s import bill.
Speaking during the company’s general assembly, Badawi said increased crude deliveries, combined with refinery development projects, pushed up the facility’s operating rate to 83% and increased output of key petroleum products.
He said the company plays a key role in Egypt’s refining sector by supplying feedstock to refineries and petrochemical companies, which convert it into higher-value products while supporting local industries.
Also, Badawi stressed the need to maintain product quality and tighten safety procedures across refineries, particularly as companies carry out development, replacement and maintenance projects.
Reham Mohamed, chairperson of Alexandria Petroleum Company, said refined crude volumes increased 9% in fiscal year 2025/26 after higher supplies during the second half lifted the refinery’s operating rate from 70% in the first quarter to 83% in the final two quarters. LPG output rose 46%, mazut 25%, naphtha 9%, diesel 6%, and jet fuel and kerosene 16%.
The company also developed its oil complex boilers under an EGP 400 million project. Mohamed said this development could save more than EGP 2 billion that the company would have paid to replace two boilers. The project supports continued local production of oils and waxes and reducing gas consumption and carbon emissions.
This follows Alexandria Petroleum Company’s August 2025 results, when the company reported refining more than 3.5 million tons of crude during FY 2024/25 and supplying feedstock to refineries and petrochemical producers.
