Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, praised Alexandria National Refining & Petrochemicals (ANRPC) and Amreya Petroleum Refining Company (APRC) for boosting production and supporting Egypt’s efforts to reduce petroleum product imports and meet local demand.
Badawi said Egyptian refineries have taken on a greater role in securing local petroleum supplies following higher crude deliveries, while improving production efficiency can further reduce the country’s import bill. He stressed that investments in refinery efficiency projects offer economic benefits by cutting import costs and making better use of available production capacity.
He also directed petroleum companies to expand energy-saving and efficiency projects after ANRPC increased its annual savings from around $1 million to $5 million in FY 2025/26. He called for successful energy-efficiency practices to spread across the sector.
ANRPC Chairman Sayed El-Rawi said the company produced nearly 2 million tons of high-octane gasoline in FY 2025/26, its highest annual output on record, representing more than 30% of Egypt’s local production. The increase followed improvements to production units, planned maintenance and higher availability of feedstock.
ANRPC also added 10,000 tons to its storage capacity, taking the total above 140,000 tons, while completing more than 3,000 meters of pipelines. Upgrading its gasoline blending unit raised efficiency by 35% and allowed the company to convert 200,000 tons of low-octane intermediate products into higher-quality gasoline.
At APRC, Chairman Mohamed Sobhi said during a video conference that the company refined around 3.3 million tons of crude in FY 2025/26, up 12% year on year, and produced the same volume of petroleum products. The output included higher volumes of diesel, asphalt, oils and solvents, supplying the local market with products worth more than EGP 76 billion.
The latest results continue work reported by both companies last year. In August 2025, ANRPC reported 1.6 million tons of high-octane gasoline and said its hydrogen boiler project cut gas use by about 20,000 tons annually. A month later, APRC announced more than EGP 2 billion in refining and storage projects, including the restart of a hydrogen unit after 13 years.
