Algerian state-owned firm Sonatrach has signed gas supply deals with Spain and Italy’s Eni, Reuters reported.

Algeria will supply 9 billion cubic meters of gas per year to Spain for nine years. Italy’s Eni will receive 3 billion cubic meters of per year for an unspecified timeframe.

A senior Sonatrach official said the company is in communication with Shell for the development of local projects in Algeria, as the country pushes to increase domestic production to fuel further overseas agreements.

“Our aim is definitely to rise our reserves by a presence overseas,” said the official.

Sonatrach has been in talks with Niger and Iraq regarding exploration deals, and has scheduled talks with Bolivia next week.
