TGS to Rehabilitate Lebanese Natural Gas Network

Egypt’s  Technical Gas Services Company (TGS) has secured a contract to repair and rehabilitate Lebanon’s natural gas infrastructure, marking a significant export of Egyptian technical expertise to the Levant. The project, signed in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, targets the restoration of a 30-kilometer, 24-inch-diameter pipeline and its associated facilities to stabilize Lebanon’s volatile energy supply, according to a statement by the Cabinet.

The agreement was signed by Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and Joseph Al-Saddi, Lebanese Minister of Energy and Water.

This technical overhaul will be achieved through the modernization of pressure reduction and metering stations. To ensure operational reliability, TGS will upgrade critical automated systems, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. The scope of work further extends to mechanical installations and the implementation of cathodic protection to prevent pipeline corrosion.

The agreement serves as the executive phase of a bilateral cooperation framework established during the Prime Minister’s visit to Beirut in December. By deploying TGS, a specialist under the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) umbrella, Egypt is positioning its state entities as primary contractors for regional energy integration.

This move provides significant value to the Lebanese energy sector, which has struggled with infrastructure degradation. For Egypt, the deal reinforces its “Regional Energy Hub” strategy, proving that the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) can successfully monetize its domestic midstream expertise in international markets.

Established in 2018 as a joint venture (JV) between GASCO, Egyptian FAJR, and Jordanian Egyptian FAJR, TGS specializes in the operation and maintenance of natural gas systems according to international standards. The company focuses on transferring Egyptian technical expertise across the region, a mission it has led since it began operating the Arab Gas Pipeline in 2019.
