Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy, stated that its LNG project in the USA is set to start production by the end of 2025. He added that its North Field East Expansion Project in Qatar is set to start production by mid-2026.
This was mentioned during his speech at the Qatar Economic Forum 2025, in a panel discussion on ‘Global Energy Supplies and Security’ with the participation of Ryan Lance, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ConocoPhillips.
Al-Kaabi called for continued investments in energy projects, stressing that a fair oil price can ensure sustained production, as well as additional reserves. “We need [the price] to be somewhere in the range of $70 to $80 to be able to sustain the current production, and increase it. If you do not have additional investments to sustain that needed energy, it will be damaging, and will cause shortages in supply,” he warned.
The Minister asserted the need for more energy to help growth across the world. Speaking on gas exploration investments, he highlighted the key role of the company in this field. He mentioned the outcomes of Trump’s visit to Qatar, noting, “we had several deals signed during the visit.”
Minister Al-Kaabi recognized the tremendous growth of QatarEnergy Trading and its future growth. He said, “Trading was something we started just a few years back. We are now trading around 10 million tons of LNG. We will be producing 160 million tons of LNG, if you include the US. We also currently have 70 LNG ships in our fleet, and we will be adding 128 more ships in a few years. All of this will help our trading thrive.”
Commenting on relations with Asia, and particularly China and India, Minister Al-Kaabi said, “We have a great relationship with China. We are the largest supplier to China, and they are our biggest buyer. They are discussing with us additional volumes, and so is India, along with many other countries.”
