In partnership with the European Union (EU) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) announced the launch of the human capacity building and training program in the field of improving energy efficiency.
The program, funded by the EU with €13 million, aims to enhance the technical capabilities of trainees from Egyptian petroleum sector companies in improving energy efficiency in petroleum projects.
It offers both theoretical and practical training on conducting technical reviews to optimize energy efficiency, implementing applied studies, applying energy management systems, and exploring financing mechanisms in this field.
The program was launched during an extensive workshop attended by petroleum sector leaders, EU and EBRD officials in Cairo, and representatives from the Italian consultancy firm Proger, which serves as the program consultant. The workshop was managed by Ahmed El-Beltagui, Head of the Climate and Energy Sector at the EU Commission in Cairo.
Alaa El Batal, the First Undersecretary for Energy Efficiency and Climate & Safety delivered the opening speech, stressing the importance of the strategic partnership between the petroleum sector, the EU and EBRD in improving energy efficiency, which confirms the extent of the joint commitment to advance energy efficiency and sustainability efforts.
He added that energy efficiency is one of the most important pillars of the activities of the MoPMR. El Batal reviewed the most important aspects of cooperation implemented within the framework of the partnership between the MOPMR and the EU to improve energy efficiency.
Lorenzo Vingot Harrington, Head of the Green and Sustainable Transformation Team at the EU Delegation in Cairo, explained the foundations on which EU-Egypt partnership in the energy sector is based on for a prosperous energy future. He highlighted the importance of providing investments to implement the necessary projects in this regard.
Additionally, Mark Davis, Managing Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) region at EBRD, stressed that launching the training program is an essential part of the joint cooperation between the two sides to reduce carbon emissions, energy sustainability and energy transition.
Moreover, the team of the Italian company Proger, the program consultant, reviewed its most important goals and training stages to gain experience and skills in the field of improving energy efficiency, including theoretical and practical training, applying energy management systems, studying financing methods, and field training visits.
The workshop also witnessed a review of success stories for the petroleum sector in the field of improving energy efficiency.
Furthermore, it included the honoring of the top trainees in the energy efficiency training program that was previously organized within the program to qualify young and middle management in the petroleum sector, funded by the EU.
