Egypt’s Petroleum Minister Participates in Ministerial Roundtable “Energy Transition, AI and the Role of Emerging Economies” at ADIPEC

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi took part in a ministerial roundtable titled “Energy Transition, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Role of Emerging Economies” during ADIPEC 2024.

The roundtable was hosted by the UAE’s Minister of Energy Suhail Al Mazrouei and attended by several energy ministers.

It addressed the role of emerging economies in the energy transition and the available opportunities to benefit from advances in AI as emerging economies represent 85% of the world’s population, while only 14% are receiving international financing for the energy transition.

The session highlighted the role of AI in helping emerging economies to benefit from improvements and predictive maintenance. It also touched on the fact that many emerging economies are the most vulnerable to climate change, making adaptation and losses compensation essential for economic growth.

Additionally, the discussions emphasized that differences in resources and income will lead to multiple energy transition paths, explaining that hydrocarbons will play different roles in the energy transition process.

Meanwhile, the participants stressed the need to address these challenges and opportunities on a global scale, in partnership with emerging economies, to achieve applicable transitions.
