On the sidelines of his participation in the CERAWeek 2025 conference, in Houston, Karim Badawi, the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, held several meetings to boost cooperation and partnerships with international entities.
Badawi held a meeting with Jeff Miller, the CEO of Halliburton, where they discussed ways to improve collaboration in well drilling and the application of modern technology to enhance production efficiency.
For his part, Miller expressed the company’s aspiration to expand its activities in Egypt and its full commitment to providing all forms of support to the petroleum sector to achieve the sector’s current goals and priorities.
The meeting further discussed leveraging Halliburton’s expertise in developing brownfields. Additionally, the two oil and gas leaders reviewed opportunities for Halliburton to enter the field of exploration and production (E&P) through the opportunities available on Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG).
In another separate meeting, the Minister along with Fatih Birol, the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA) discussed the ways to enhance joint cooperation between Egypt and the agency.
The meeting also focused on activating the updates to the joint action plan aiming to support Egypt’s efforts in its transition to a low-carbon economy, diversifying the energy mix through expanding renewable energy production, and strengthening carbon reduction measures in the oil and gas sector, which would contribute to securing energy resources and achieving economic growth targets.
Moreover, the two sides discussed the challenges facing the energy sector, most notably achieving energy security and achieving an optimal global energy mix, emphasizing the continued importance of fossil fuels as a key component of the energy mix for decades to come, alongside renewable energy sources.
