Egypt’s candidate, Dr. Elham Mahmoud Ahmad Ibrahim, has been unanimously elected as the World Energy Congress (WEC) Deputy Chair, Akhbar Al-Youm reported.

She was nominated by Egypt to represent the African continent in the 24th WEC, which is being held in Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital, on September 9-12.

The WEC gathers around 4,000 delegates, public officials, ministers, policymakers, CEOs, along with industry leaders and practitioners from over 150 countries to explore the future of energy, innovation aspects, and modern strategies.

Ibrahim previously served as the African Union Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy. The first Egyptian to hold this position, she was succeeded in 2017 by another Egyptian, Amani Abou-Zeid, an international development expert.
