Egypt Pitches Energy, Mining Investment Opportunities to Foreign Diplomats

Egypt stepped up efforts to attract foreign investment in its energy and mining sectors, as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi discussed opportunities and recent developments in both sectors.

Abdelatty stressed the need to enhance energy security and diversify supply sources, amid ongoing regional and international disruptions to global energy supply chains and maritime trade, to help safeguard supply. He highlighted Egypt’s ambition to become a regional energy hub.

He emphasized the need for closer cooperation with international partners across the energy and mining value chains, including exploration, production, technology transfer, and the exchange of expertise and best practices.

Badawi outlined measures to boost the competitiveness of Egypt’s petroleum and mining industries, including investment incentives for exploration and production and updated contractual frameworks designed to attract activity in promising resource areas.

Badawi recalled that, in June 2026, the government settled all international oil companies’ (IOCs) arrears, helping restore investor confidence and accelerate exploration and production activities. He stressed the government would continue to settle dues owed to foreign partners.

The petroleum minister also highlighted investment opportunities available through Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG) and reviewed ongoing seismic survey programs in the Red Sea, the Eastern Mediterranean, the southern Western Desert, and the Gulf of Suez to support exploration.

He pointed to Egypt’s extensive natural gas infrastructure and opportunities in the petrochemicals sector, while emphasizing that recent legislative and regulatory reforms align with international best practices.

Badawi further encouraged ambassadors to help connect Egyptian companies with opportunities in their home markets, increasing exports of Egyptian oil products and services.
