Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, met with C. Sushma, Chargé d’Affaires at the Indian Embassy in Cairo, along with a delegation comprising heads and officials from Indian petrochemical and fertilizer companies, including the Ostwal Group of Industries, FACT, HURL, and RCF.

The delegation is currently visiting Egypt on an official mission commissioned by the Indian government, represented by the Indian Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, to explore opportunities for strengthening cooperation with Egypt in the fields of petrochemicals, mining, and fertilizers.

During the meeting, Badawi said that the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ (MoPMR) strategy is based on implementing projects to manufacture high-quality, high-value products, aiming to maximize added value from petroleum and mineral resources, expand export activities, and fulfill the needs of the local market.

For her part, Sushma noted that India imports large quantities of fertilizers from Egypt and is currently seeking to secure long-term food supplies and fertilizers. She added that the delegation aims to boost cooperation with Egypt in this area and further explore ways to enhance cooperation in other areas, given the strong historical ties between the two countries.

Representatives of the Indian companies expressed interest in exploring investment opportunities in Egypt and the potential for joint projects in phosphate fertilizers, urea, mining, phosphoric acid, and other related fields.

During the meeting, both sides agreed to form a joint working group to explore investment opportunities and strengthen cooperation on implementing strategic projects that serve the interests of both countries.
