Basra Oil Company Signs Deals with Halliburton to Develop Nahr Bin Omar, Sinbad Fields in Iraq

Iraqi Basra Oil Company (BOC) has signed two agreements with Halliburton to develop the Nahr Bin Omar and Sinbad fields, according to Iraqi news agency.

This confidentiality agreement involves Iraq to provide Halliburton with data and discuss operations in the fields to build the technical and economic model to boost oil production and investment of associated gas.

“Discussions and studies will be presented in the development of the Nahr Bin Omar and Sinbad fields,” said Basem Abdul Karim, the General Manager of BOC.

The Nahr Bin Omar field, one of the geologically complex fields, is characterized by the presence of large quantities of high-quality natural gas, in addition to containing very light oils with a density of (50 API).

Currently, the production of the Nahr Bin Omar field is about 45.000 barrels per day (bbl/d), and after development, it is anticipated to reach 300.000 bbl/d. Halliburton also aims to produce 300 million cubic feet (mcf) of gas from the field, according to Reuters.

Director of Business Development at Halliburton, Omar Al-Kashif stressed the importance of this cooperation, stating that: “the company will provide the latest digital and technological techniques to achieve sustainable production.”

Halliburton plans to make a field visit to the fields and start development operations in the coming days.

“The company’s field visit to the Nahr Bin Omar field is planned, with a visit to the Sinbad field in the coming days, where development operations will be implemented according to specific stages with the aim of improving production efficiency,” said Al Kashif.

Notably, BOC will remain the main operator, while Halliburton will manage the surface and subsurface projects.
