The Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco)’s refinery expansion project has reached halfway to completion and is on track to be finished by Q3 2022, according to Akhbar Al-Khalij.
The Minister of Oil for Bahrain, Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Ahmed, said at a virtual council in Bahrain that the modernization of the Bacpco refinery is one of the largest ambitious projects in the country; with a cost of more than $6 billion, it will increase the refinery’s capacity to about 400,000 barrels per day (bbl/d). He added that Bahrain would see a $2 billion increase in cash flow after its completion in 2022.
At present, the production capacity of Bapco is 267,000 bbl/d, and it also operates storage facilities with a capacity of 14 million barrels of oil (mmbbl/d). Bapco exports about 90% of the refined products through the dock in Sidra.
