Badawi Inspects Well Workover Program at Baraka Oil Field in Aswan

Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, visited the Baraka oil field, operated by the South Valley Egyptian Petroleum Holding Company (Ganope), in Kom Ombo, to track progress on a program aimed at restoring crude production from idle wells, according Petroleum Magazine.

During the visit, Badawi followed up on operations at the newly deployed rig, which is being used to implement a well maintenance program targeting a number of crude oil wells. The program aims to restore wells to production and support efforts to increase domestic crude oil output.

The field visit forms part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to monitor operational progress at production sites and accelerate the implementation of field development and well intervention programs designed to maximize production from existing assets.

In July, Ganope launched a program to revive production at the Al Baraka oil field through workover operations on existing wells and the drilling of new development and exploration wells. Implemented in partnership with Canada’s Mediterra Energy, the initiative aims to boost domestic crude oil production and unlock the hydrocarbon potential of the Kom Ombo concession. Discovered in 2007 as Upper Egypt’s first oil field, Al Baraka has experienced declining production over the years, prompting efforts to restore output from its mature wells.
