Badawi, AngloGold Ashanti CEO Hold Talks to Review Current Mining Agreement

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi held a meeting with Alberto Calderon, CEO of AngloGold Ashanti reviewing the latest developments of the exploitation agreement the two parties had previously agreed upon, on the sidelines of their participation in the BEBA delegation.

This meeting was on the sidelines of the Mining Indaba 2025 Conference in South Africa.

Calderon confirmed that the company follows the same exploitation agreement model in all the countries where it operates and looks forward to finalizing the procedures soon.

Badawi also reviewed the Egyptian government’s efforts to develop the mining sector and create an attractive investment climate, highlighting the efforts to transform the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA) into an economic body to enhance its capabilities in exploiting mineral resources.

Calderon expressed his appreciation for the developments in the sector in Egypt and his interest in increasing the company’s investments by acquiring new concession areas.

Both parties agreed on coordinating a visit for the CEO and officials of AngloGold Ashanti to Egypt to visit Sukari Gold Mine as part of the company’s plan to carry out more exploration and development operations at the mine.
