Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and SLB have jointly launched an advanced artificial intelligence (AI)-powered Production System Optimization (AiPSO) platform, marking a major milestone for the use of AI in large-scale energy operations. The announcement was made during the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) 2025.
The AiPSO platform integrates millions of real-time data points from ADNOC’s network of wells and processing facilities. By leveraging AI and ADNOC’s proprietary machine learning algorithms, the system can proactively monitor and optimize production processes, allowing engineers to identify and resolve issues in minutes instead of days.
The technology also connects office and field operations through smart workflows, maximizing well output and improving workforce productivity.
Initially deployed across eight oil and gas fields, this initiative supports ADNOC’s strategic ambition to become the world’s most AI-enabled energy company. ADNOC plans to expand the AiPSO platform to cover all onshore and offshore fields by 2027, further strengthening its position as a leader in large-scale AI integration.
This launch follows the recent deployment of “Neuron 5,” an advanced AI-enabled process-optimization system developed in collaboration with ADNOC’s tech partners. The pilot phase of Neuron 5 has reportedly demonstrated its capability to reduce unplanned shutdowns by up to 50% and extend planned maintenance intervals by around 20%.
