Badawi: Egypt’s Total Crude Oil Production Exceeds 540,000 bbl/d

Egypt's crude oil production has exceeded 540,000 barrels per day (bbl/d), marking a return to growth after a period of decline, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi said during a meeting with the leadership of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).

Badawi praised the efforts of the EGPC and its affiliated companies for the increase, emphasizing their role in increasing production and ensuring secure fuel supplies through coordinated efforts across the petroleum value chain.

Petrobel Launches “Zero Waste” Initiative in South Sinai

In line with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR)’s strategy to promote environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR),  Belayim Petroleum Company (Petrobel) has launched the “Zero Waste” project at its Abu Rudeis camp in South Sinai. The initiative stands as a pioneering model that integrates environmental protection with socio-economic development, supporting Egypt Vision 2030 and the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Cyprus’ FMC Plans $20 Mn Investment in Mining Exploration in Egypt

Cypriot mining company FMC, formerly known as SMW, plans to invest nearly $20 million over the next two to three years as it resumes operations in Egypt, according to Executive Chairman Philipp Hiendl.

This came through a meeting of Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources with FMC Executive Chairman Philipp Hiendl to discuss the company’s plans to resume gold and mineral exploration activities in the Eastern Desert.

Egypt, World Bank Align on Decarbonization Under GFMR Framework

Mahmoud Nagy, Undersecretary for health, safety, and environment (HSE), Energy Efficiency, and Climate, and Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR), met with the World Bank mission representatives responsible for the Global Flaring and Methane Reduction Partnership Program (GFMR), together with the Ministry’s environmental affairs team.

Badawi: Fertilizer Plants Exceed 90% Capacity as Gas Supplies Stabilize

The fertilizer plants in Egypt operated at more than 90% of their capacity over the past year following the stabilization of natural gas supplies, while urea fertilizer exports reached approximately $9.4 billion in 2025, marking an annual growth rate of 7.4%, according to Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

Speaking at the opening of the Arab Fertilizer Association's 32 Annual International Fertilizers Conference and Exhibition, Badawi said that the ministry had successfully overcome challenges related to natural gas supplies and secured the needs of the domestic market and various industrial sectors. This, he noted, helped restore production and operating rates across industries, particularly the fertilizer sector.

Vaalco Energy Expands Egypt Output with HE-9 Well Launch

US Vaalco Energy has kicked off its 2026 onshore Egyptian drilling campaign by bringing the HE‑9 development well online in early June. The well encountered 26 meters of net pay in the Asl B reservoir in the Gulf of Suez, delivering a gross initial flow rate of 529 barrels of oil per day (bbl/d)—a result that surpassed the company's pre‑drill expectations, noted a statement by Vaalco. 

TAG Oil to Spud T-200 Well in Egypt’s Western Desert by Mid-July

Canadian explorer TAG Oil is set to commence drilling operations at the T-200 well in the BED-1 field, located in Egypt's Western Desert, following the mobilization of the NDC-9 drilling rig later this month.

The company confirmed that site preparation is already underway and all necessary regulatory approvals have been secured. The NDC-9 rig is scheduled to move to the BED-1 location before the end of June to prepare for the mid-July spud date.

ELAB Prepares for Privatisation with Temporary EGX Listing

The Egyptian Linear Alkyl Benzene Company (ELAB), an Egyptian petrochemicals producer, has applied for a temporary listing on the Egyptian Exchange's (EGX) main market, according to an EGX disclosure. 

The company plans to list 2.1 billion shares at a par value of $0.10 each, bringing its issued capital to approximately $210 million. The application is currently under review by the EGX before being referred to the Listing Committee.

ENOC Seeks to Expand Emirati Oil and Gas Investments in Egypt

Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, met with a delegation from the state-owned Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), headed by its CEO, Hussain Sultan Lootah and Abdulkarim Almaazmi‏, CEO of Dragon Oil, a subsidiary of ENOC, to discuss opportunities for expanding Emirati investments in Egypt’s oil and gas sector.

The two sides agreed to form a joint working team to develop an executive program for expanding UAE's investments in Egypt’s petroleum sector and to study available opportunities in aviation fuel supply, exploration, and production,supporting the strategic partnership between the two countries and opening new horizons for growth and investment.

Badawi Reviews EGAS Projects Following New Discoveries
