TotalEnergies Divests Distributed Solar Assets in Europe

TotalEnergies SE has sold its 170-megawatt portfolio of distributed solar generation assets in Europe. The assets were acquired by Amarenco and AMPYR Distributed Energy, who will continue operations and supply existing customers. TotalEnergies did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction.

The divested solar assets are located across France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Britain, and Luxembourg. Distributed solar projects, typically under 3 megawatts and often installed on rooftops, have been identified by TotalEnergies as less aligned with its strategic focus.

The company is shifting its priorities toward large-scale renewable projects, aiming to expand its global renewable energy capacity from 35 gigawatts to over 75 gigawatts by 2030.

Throughout 2026, TotalEnergies executed four major portfolio adjustments, including the European distributed solar exit on July 9, the Ethiopian downstream exit on June 30, the Malaysian gas field stake sale on July 2, and a 50% monetization of German battery storage on March 3. These transactions, ranging from early March to early July, reflect a strategic pivot toward larger infrastructure projects.
