Algerian oil company Sonatrach said it has discovered, along with StatoilHydro, a new gas field in the south western Hassi Mouina region.
Tests carried out in exploration wells north of Timimoun produced gas to 1,305 metres deep, at a flow rate of 2,515 m3/hour, it said.
This discovery confirms the potential of gas in this region, where exploration work has been carried out since 2006 by the companies. The Sonatrach-Statoil team made two discoveries in 2007.
