The Ibeno community of Akwa-Ibom state, a host to ExxonMobil, has given the oil major one week ultimatum to clean up the latest alleged oil spill from its facilities or face sanctions in the area, reported AllAfrica.

A major bone of contention has been the inability/refusal of ExxonMobil to disclose the actual quantity of oil spill believed to be recorded from its installation at Ibeno when the Joint Inspection Team (JIT) of stakeholders visited the site, Nigerian newspaper, ThisDay, wrote.

The Akwa Ibom State Government had ordered the JIT comprising of representatives from Ibeno community, ExxonMobil, Depthwize Nigeria Limited, NOSDRA, and other stakeholders to investigate the latest oil spill reports in the area and the clean-up procedures.
