The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s (NNPC) Managing Director, Mikanti Baru, said that NNPC will support the Nigerian Gas Association (NGA) to achieve its objectives of ensuring that the country derives maximum benefit from its huge gas resource base, All Africa reported.
Baru’s comments came as he received a delegation from NGA led by its President, Bolaji Osunsanya, in Abuja.
Osunsanya called for increased dialogue and cooperation between the association and the state oil company, adding that by aligning with each other, Nigeria’s huge natural gas resources could be explored as the viable option to crude oil in the face of present economic realities, according to Today.ng. He further called on government to create incentives to promote deliberate and well-funded projects in the search for gas as against the practice of accidental gas discoveries.
Baru commended the members of the NGA for their advocacy in ensuring a review of the Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs) gas terms adding that the NNPC is working round the clock to ensure the maximization of the nation’s vast gas resources by incentivizing all parts of the gas value chain.
NNPC and NGA cooperation is quite apt for this period especially with Nigeria’s interests in the West Africa Gas Pipeline and Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Limited.
