Nigeria Discovers Oil Siphoning Well in Lagos

The Nigerian Army and officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) uncovered an illegal oil well in Lagos State. The well was filled with Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) that is used as petrol for vehicles, Vanguard reported.

This came barely two weeks after the state police and other security agencies discovered about 10 houses on Ibadan and Abeokuta streets in Ilasamaja axis of the state, where tunnelled wells were linked to oil pipelines through which diesel was siphoned, according to All Africa.

Nigeria’s oil output is declining by 26% , as it reached 1.4m b/d in May 2016, a 30-year low. Oil thefts, similar to the above incident, and civil unrest threaten to further drive down production in the African nation.
