MOC Closes with Panel on Employing Digital Capabilities

In the closing day of the Mediterranean Offshore Conference (MOC 2024), which was held in Alexandria for three days, a session was held on “Employing Digital Capabilities to Accelerate the Development of Energy Resources”.

The session’s panelists were Iman Wafy, Assistant CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) for Information Technology; Hussein Ibrahim, Vice President of Schneider Electric for the Energy and Chemicals Sector for the Africa Region; and Ahmed El-Saeed, Director of the Digitization and Integration Department at SLB.

During the session, the participants highlighted the importance of digital transformation in all petroleum activities for its significant role in data analyzation, to speed up decision-making, as well as training programs for cadres working in the field of technology to keep pace with technological development and protect data from cyber-attacks. They also pointed out the importance of AI applications and simulation technology at the petroleum activities.

Wafy explained that the petroleum sector was a pioneer in implementing the development and modernization program that was launched in 2016, and it has begun to bear fruit. One of its fruits was the digital transformation program, in which great effort was made and development is still ongoing. It is a journey that will not stop because technological development is constantly changing.

Wafy also noted that digital transformation is now integrated across all petroleum activities, contributing to improved data verification and faster decision-making.

Wafy added that the Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG) is one of the most important fruits of the digital transformation program, as data has become available in a professional manner to companies at all times, which encourages attracting investments in the sector and thus increasing production. In this regard, Wafy pointed out that the cadres working in the field of technology are part of this success and that the training process is important and continuous to keep pace with technological development and protect data from cyber-attacks.
