Kuwait Oil Company, the government-owned holding company, said it has discovered a new oil and gas field in the al-Jathatheel region, in the western part of the country, Al Arabiya reported.

 According to preliminary tests, the new field will likely boost country’s natural reserves. However, the company gave no estimate of the size of the field.

 The company added that its teams are currently carrying out tests at the field, but no further details were publicized.

Kuwait has the sixth largest crude oil reserves worldwide with an estimated 102b barrels of proven oil reserves, according to the US Energy Information Administration, added Gulf News.

It currently produces 3mb/d and aims to raise its production capacity to 4mb/d by 2020, Trade Arabia wrote.
