Government Installs 1.1 MM Prepaid Meters in H1 2019

The Ministry of Electricity has installed around 1.1 million prepaid meters across Egypt this year, Amwal Al-Ghad reported.

More than 700,000 prepaid meters have been installed during the first four months of the year, bringing the total number of prepaid meters to 7.6 million, and then another 400,000 locally-manufactured meters were installed between April and the end of June.

As part of a national strategy, 2.5 million prepaid meters were installed back in 2016, the number then rose to 4.7 meters in 2017. Last year, this number increased to 6.9 million, with plans to install an additional 2.3 million meters by the end of 2019, in order to help promote energy rationalization and improve the efficiency of electricity bills payment services.

The North Delta Electricity Distribution Company (NDECO) revealed earlier that it has installed more than 2 million prepaid electricity meters, covering 47% of its base.
