GECF Appoints El Molla as Alternate President

The Ministerial Council of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) appointed the Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El Molla, as Alternate President of the Ministerial Meeting in 2018, Egypt Oil & Gas reports.

The Minister of Energy and Energy Industries of Trinidad and Tobago, Franklin Khan, was appointed President of the Ministerial Meeting for the same time period. The Russian Deputy Minister of Energy, Yury Sentyurin, was appointed to a two-year term as the next Secretary General of the GECF, starting in January 2018.

The appointments were made during the 19th Ministerial Meeting. The group will meet again on November 14, 2018.

During the meeting, the attending ministers discussed the long-term gas outlook and the short-term gas-market report. The ministers also reviewed market developments, opportunities and challenges.

Egypt, Algeria, Bolivia, Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria, Iran, Libya, Qatar, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Venezuela, Russia, and Trinidad and Tobago participated in the meeting. Norway, Oman, and the Netherlands attended as observers.

The GECF was founded to support the rights of its members to develop their natural resources in accordance with national objectives. The group aims to foster the exchange of knowledge and experience between its members, according to the organization’s website.
