EUG Examines Promising Exploration Opportunities in Workshop

The Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG) organized a specialized workshop to discuss promising exploration opportunities and undeveloped discoveries on the investment map. It reviewed 13 investment opportunities currently offered for bidding, including seven undeveloped discoveries in the Mediterranean Sea for the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) for the first time, three exploration areas in the Western Desert for the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), and three exploration areas in the Gulf of Suez for the Ganoub El Wadi Petroleum Holding Company’s (Ganope), which are scheduled to close on July 2, 2025.

During the workshop, the gateway’s working team delivered technical presentations to highlight the Mediterranean investments. Additionally, the seven undeveloped discoveries were offered under the “Clusters” system which aims to accelerate production operations and maximize economic returns by grouping a number of geographically and technically close discoveries within a single package.

The first cluster included the Aten; Meret; and Rahmat discoveries, while the second cluster includes Salamat; Satis; and Salmon. These discoveries represent promising investment opportunities to enhance natural gas production in light of increasing local and international demand.

The program also included a review of several exploration areas offered within the same map, specifically in the Western Desert and the Gulf of Suez regions, totaling six areas that represent attractive opportunities for investment in research and exploration activities.

The workshop further included a detailed presentation of the technical and commercial terms specific to the offered areas. This enables investors to form a clear and comprehensive vision of the investment work environment and its flexibility, and helps them make decisions based on accurate and up-to-date data.

Furthermore, the steps for booking data rooms through the portal’s website were demonstrated, along with the types of available technical data packages and the differences between them to support the technical and economic evaluation process for the offered areas.

The workshop concluded with an open discussion, during which all technical and commercial inquiries raised by the attendees were answered.

The workshop came within the framework of the first pillar of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’s (MoPMR) strategy to enhance research and exploration activities and expand explorations through new investments. It was attended by leaders from the petroleum sector and representatives from French company SLB, formerly known as Shlumberger, in addition to over 20 representatives from international companies specializing in research, exploration, and production, including Eni, Shell, ExxonMobil, Cheiron, bp, Lukoil, and Apache, as well as Egyptian companies such as Nile Energy, Pharos, Ezz Steel, and IPR, and a number of oil and gas exploration and production technology companies such as Halliburton, Baker Hughes, and TGS.

EUG is the digital platform for Egypt’s international bid rounds, operating on behalf of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
